As much as I love girly, feminine things, my inner rock goddess has always been drawn to edgy, funky pieces. This spring, punk-influenced looks were all the rage on the runway and now they are popping up in places like H & M and Forever 21 (and in my closet). Hallmarks of this punk look include red plaid, leather, mesh, animal print, metal accessories (like studs and safety pins) and of course, combat boots (time to dust off your Doc Martens).
I don’t know about you, but I always feel like I am in charge when I throw on a pair of combat style boots. And if they happen to be in animal print like the Alexander Wang Lyndon Leopard ones below? Then for sure, I am unstoppable (and they are especially comfortable, while looking bad-ass).
For an updated weekend look, try styling the Fleur de Mal leather bustier top and pair it with a plaid skirt like the funky one below from Rag and Bone. I am also loving the Keegan Sequin crop top, which would look amazing with a pair of ripped jeans or pleather leggings.
So that you don’t look like you are going to a costume party, pair some of these edgier pieces with a simple white tee and jeans, or mix it up and throw on a floral dress with your combat boots.
The punk-inspired accessories, like the safety pin earrings by Rebecca Minkoff and the Room 101 Dog Tag necklace, have me swooning. They are cool and simple at the same time and can add a little edge to a basic look.
Happy styling… xx Amanda Brooke
